The adventurous but less skilled actually have a chance to beat it because the game will hover around level 4 for them. S rank for maintaining level 5 for a chapter), the new hard mode would be more approachable. Normal - goes from 1-5 (again, 4 being between 3 and Die, and 5 being Level Die) The difficulties would look something like this:Įasy - locked to 1 to 2 or 3 (so that even new players can still experience level up and down)

The new max level would be Level 5, and it would be equal in difficulty to the original Level Die. Ideally, I'd create a level in between Level 3 and Level Die in which enemies are as aggressive as Level Die, but don't have quite that much health. I think the core issue is that there's a large gulf between Level 3 and Level Die. God Hand, as much as I love it, is clearly balanced around normal, and as a result it's one of the few action games where the hardest difficulty is a lesser experience.

Not only do enemies dodge/guard a lot (which I'm fine with), they also get crazy health boosts and take forever to kill (boo hiss). It's not impossible, but it sure is tedious. Frankly, it's a pain in the ass to play on Level Die for extended periods of time. An overall S rank or platinum is easier to digest, and an easier to goal to chase, than some 6-digit score. It'd be something like S rank for level (maintaining level die), S rank for no deaths, and S rank for beating all the enemies in a level. This might not be the most popular choice, and it's mostly personal preference, but I was never fond of how the original game only gave out a score at the end of the chapter. Platinum or DMC style rank at the end of a chapter. Option for new game plus on a harder difficulty where you keep all your moves. God Hand is gonna look like ass no matter how HD it is, so it's kind of a lost cause.

Hire the Pikmin 3 team for dedicated HD fruit visuals (the most important thing) for Gene, and the usual Morrigan, Felicia, etc. More costumes, preferably Capcom cameos. I have no idea how the original game didn't run at 60 fps looking like it did. PCSX2 has a widescreen patch, and it's glorious. I think it could use some tweaks, mostly with hard mode, and I'd be curious what other God Hand fans think about my suggestions. I'm starting to keep a running checklist of things I want from an HD remake that I'll regurgitate here. One of the games I post about the most on gaf.
